For the Shipibo, Icaros are sacred songs that carry different powers such as to evoke good plant spirits, protect the ceremony from evil spirits, to enhance or mitigate the effects of Ayahuasca, particularly visions, to diagnose or divine the cause of an ailment and much much more.
Every song is different and comes to the healer directly from the plant spirits.
